LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Families,
I’ve been meaning to thank you for being polite to one another in the parking lot by using your patience tool and letting in other drivers in front of you in the parking lot and especially on Faught Rd. Please see the note below regarding communicating with Smart Watches and have a wonderful 3-day weekend.
Warm regards,
Patrick Eagle

YOUTH TRUTH SURVEY
Overall, our results from the Youth Truth survey were very positive. We ranked high among the other schools in our district and in the county. Parents, students and staff are happy for the most part. Our strengths are Culture and Relationships in both student and family surveys. Areas to work on are Communication/Feedback and School Safety according to the family survey and Instructional Methods and Academic Challenge in the student survey. We really appreciate the time you took to take the survey and we will use the results, especially the written comments, to help us grow. Here is a link to the slide that I presented at the last board meeting. Click here.

APPROPRIATE USE OF SMART WATCHES
We have seen an uptick in the inappropriate use of smart watches recently. Students have been using them to text parents and friends during school hours. Cell phones are not allowed to be used for the same reason. Parents, please don’t text your child at school, as they feel obligated to respond. If you need to get a message to your child, please call or email the office. Thank you for your cooperation.

PTO UPDATE
Thanks to everyone who has made it to the meetings throughout the school year, your input is truly invaluable and we are so grateful to be able to collaborate with our community on how we can best serve our students and school! At our last meeting a new treasurer was voted in. We are so excited to have Mikayla Pentecost join our executive board for the 2024-2025 school year. Mikayla has a current second grader and an incoming TK student. Welcome Mikayla!

If you haven’t had a chance and are planning to, click on the link to order your supply boxes for next year. Orders need to be in by July 1st in order for them to be here in time for next school year! This is not mandatory but is a great way to get your shopping done easily and to also make sure that the teachers get exactly what they asked for.

A ‘NOTE’ FROM THE MUSIC TEACHER
Bravo again to all the student musicians who played their final performance at their school assembly this week! I am so proud of the hard work and practice that went into learning their instrument (including voice!) and their music. Additionally, I want to thank the creative and courageous students who volunteered to
choreograph and perform original moves in our chorus song “Welcome to Wonderland.” Your creativity truly made this song a joy to listen to and to watch.

Please make sure all music students have returned their instrument and their book (violin/clarinet/trumpet) to Mrs. Kaufman as soon as possible, if they have not already done so. 6th graders who are currently borrowing an instrument to play for the promotion song must return the instrument immediately following the promotion ceremony on June 7. If your child will be in 4th, 5th, or 6th grade next year, please stay tuned for music signup information in August! Also, if your current 6th grader will be attending Mark West Charter in the fall, we offer a strings elective class where students can learn the violin, viola, cello, or double bass. No prior experience needed if they begin in the first quarter! Thank you all for a wonderful year of music!

As always, if any parents are interested in supporting the music program in our district, please consider joining us at our next Mark West Education Foundation meeting on Tuesday, June 4 from 5-6pm at the District Office Learning Center. We’d love to see you there!
